Melban Crab

Yesterday ate crab at Melban in Ang Mo Kio. Reached at 6pm and the queue was already long... and the waitress told us they need 1 hour to prepare our food. Yesterday was actually the second time I went there. Was prepared to tried their black pepper crab after trying their milk/cream crab the last time I went there. Heard the black pepper was nicer.

Highlight of this shop is actually their crabs. They were huge and taste as delicious as No Signboard. But yesterday my table ordered 4 crabs but only 2 were solid crabs. They put a declaration "No guarantee solid crabs". Well at least I get 2 good ones.
My favourite of the crabs would still be the crab bee hoon. The soup is milky and sweet... and the crab meat taste nice mixing the soup... delicious.

Ranking of the crabs:
1. Crab Bee Hoon
2. Black Pepper Crab
3. Creamy/Milky Crab
4. Chilli Crab

The chilli crab is the basic tomato base sauce. Nothing fantastic. No Signboard still reigns in the chilli crab arena. Haha.
Other side dishes are delicious as well. Worth a try. But still it's the crabs that steals the limelight.

P.S. You can even pay by credit card in this zi char store!

Look out for the friendly uncle who sells drinks at the coffee shop. First drinks stall uncle I met that takes order in English!

Bird Thong Chai - Mee tae kid tueng

Recommend this song from Bird Thong Chai, a Thai Singer. Song name is Mee Tae Kid Tueng. It means "Miss you, forever". (if i'm not wrong)...

Very touching MV. There is a version of the MV that has a story.. It's a romantic story of 2 villagers. Then the girl went far away to work in the city while the boy stays in the village. According to Bird Thong Chai's website, the girl will write and send the boy a peanut sweet every year on her birthday. Then this girl passed away, but her daughter continued to send peanut sweet to the boy.. Not sure exactly how Bird Thong Chai's role come into play though.. he acts as the photographer who hired this girl's daughter... hmm...

But overall very nice! Thumbs Up!

Morton's

I dined at Morton's for Friday's night dinner. Location: Mandarin Oriental Hotel. It was superb! No wonder it is one of the best steakhouses in Singapore and sooo........ expensive.

Every portion is huge and you really need a super big appetite to finish your appetizer, main course, dessert and other sides. Otherwise, it's better to share with your friends, especially for the small eaters. The bread was huge... as big as a Christmas cake. It's very fragrant, but unfortunately you can't take too much of it, otherwise you will be stuffed by the time your main course comes.

The menu is only 1 page, but you can choose seafood, USA beef, Australian beef. What I had that night was a Ribeye USA steak. The beef is very thick and very juicy and soft considered that it was done medium well. That cost $89. You can actually order a steak and lobster tail combination for $169. And of course, you can order the entire lobster.... it's based on market price. But the lobster taste very very sweet! Their oysters are also big and juicy. For non beef eaters, you can try their chicken. But to forewarn, they give you 3 big pieces of chicken, which most probably you will be full by the time you finish the first or second piece. That's about $50.
You can also try the Morton's salad. It is pretty good with salad dressings and lots of bacon's bits. Dessert is warm chocolate cake, and it's really one of the best I have eaten. I also had the James Bond 007 wine that day. Not too sure what is the name of the wine, all I know is that it was featured on the latest James Bond movie.

There were people celebrating birthdays in the restaurant. As usual the staffs will come over to your table and wish you happy birthday. But interesting enough, their birthday song goes..."happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday from Morton's, happy birthday to you..." Well, guess they don't have to check your name before they sing the birthday song to you....

Train Disrupted between Tanah Merah and Pasir Ris

I was part of the 60,000 over people who were affected by the disruption of train services between Tanah Merah and Pasir Ris from 6am to 1245pm.
When I reach the train station, and my usual station had its gate shut closed, I thought some person had jumped off the MRT track to commit suicide again.. Oops. Sorry for the morbid thought. Thank goodness, it's just some service truck that got stuck in between the stations. (Just knew it from the 10pm news).

But saw the news and many people were complaining. I don't know what they are complaining about. I was quite impressed with SMRT people, cause I felt that they had controlled the crowd pretty well. They make sure that people don't forcefully squeeze up the already crowded shuttle services. And make sure that the drivers go to the right lanes to drop people off at the right stations.

Maybe some people have higher expectations. I heard one mother who was bringing her son to school asking the SMRT personnel.
Mother: "What time did the train stop functioning? How come the radio never mentioned anything before I left the house? Then maybe we would try a different route to go to school..."
SMRT personneL: "*Smiling* I don't know, mdm."
Gosh, everyone is late. School kids, working adults.... Where are these people rushing to when they know that teachers and bosses will let them go for being late. And the obvious reason being train disruption. If they don't believe, ask them watch the news, read the papers or just call SMRT to check.....
People reading this, appreciate if something like this happens to you next time, relax... and cooperate. Don't complain so much, because many people are doing a lot of things to help you already. You should say "thank you" instead.......

The Magic Of Chong Qing Hot Pot

I finally tried the "ChongQing Mala" Hot Pot for the first time on Friday.
It was good! My friends and I practically ordered 10 plates of everything on the menu.
There are different soup bases and we chose the chicken broth and the Mala soup. Stuff we ate that night included beef, cockles, mussels, dumplings, fishballs, mushrooms, veges, prawns, pork. These are buffet items, so we keep ordering plates after plates, and keep dumping them into the Mala Soup.

The 8 treasures tea was superb as well. Sadly, we ordered the cold tea, so we did not manage to get the waiter pouring out of the long tea pot to serve us...

Anyway, the food must be dipped into a mixture of 4 sauces, which kills the numbness of the Mala soup. I can only taste peanut sauce and sesame oil, but it was simply...... "sedap"!
Quite made my money worth because we ate a lot that night. Even the waiter keep questioning about our last orders of 10 plates of fish maw, mushrooms and prawns when he was taking the last order for the day.

Overall, it is good. But a bit on the steep side, it costs about $40 per pax eventually. Must call and book in advance, especially for large groups. Otherwise, you gotta eat quick and order a lot, cos' the last order is at 10pm. So early!!!! I find.

I finally got the Internet working on my Wii

I cannot connect to the Forecast channel and the News channel on my Wii menu. I keep receiving the error message that " Wiiconnect24 is not switched on. Error Code: 109139." and "Wiiconnect24 is not available.."
Didn't know I have to switch the country to United States for them to work. Now it's working. So is my Shopping Channel and I downloaded 2 free channels "Everybody vote" channel and one "show mii" channel... Haha!

Want to surf internet on Wii though... like can watch Youtube on TV. PS3 was able to do that.. and it's good. But Wii you gotta download this Internet Channel by Opera. It used to be free download for people before June 2007! But I only got mine after, so I now have to pay about 500 Wii points, think it's about 5 USD to get it! Argh... so irritating...

One more advantage of the PS3 system compared to Wii, the internet browser is free........ would be great if I could surf net on tv...............

The Golden Path 黄金路: Thumbs Up!

I haven't been following local Singaporean dramas for a long time. Find them not as interesting as the Hongkong TVB dramas. I also don't like Korean and Taiwanese dramas also....

As usual, I did not want to watch The Golden Path on Channel 8. Rather watch Fei Tian Xi Shi that was going on on SCV. Amazingly, on Christmas Eve, a lot of my friends gave good reviews about this show. So being curious, I started watching and I got pretty hooked.

Interested people, please search the story plot online. Haha. Me bit lazy to write the story plot here, when it is so easy to find on websites and forums. Quite a lot of people discussing about this show!
Thumbs up to Felicia Chin. Think she acted quite well in the show and look very pretty!
Yesterday watch until the part when Jin Long's sister died... so poor thing. She's the most pitiful character in the show... Hopefully the show speed things up a little and show how the Kaijie is the most evil character in the entire show!

"Mei yi duan lu......." Now the theme song is stuck in my head. Cos' keep hearing it before and after advertisements.
